DNSF Trustee Job Description

Position:
Trustee
Location: Downs and Special Friends, Batley (North Kirklees)
Time Commitment: Approx. 4 hours per month, including quarterly board meetings (in-person or virtual)

About Downs and Special Friends: Downs and Special Friends is committed to supporting children, young people, and adults with Down Syndrome, Autism, ADHD and other special needs. We provide a range of activities, resources, and community engagement opportunities to help individuals and their families live fuller, happier lives. As our charity grows by wanting to acquire Batley Baths from Kirklees council under CAT, we are looking for dedicated and qualified trustees to join our board and contribute to our mission.

Role Overview:

As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of Downs and Special Friends charity. You will work closely with other board members and the leadership team to ensure that the charity meets its goals, operates efficiently, and upholds its values. Your insight, expertise, and passion will help us make a positive, lasting impact on the lives of those we support.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Governance and Oversight

    • Provide strategic leadership and guidance, ensuring the charity meets its objectives and remains focused on its mission.
    • Monitor the charity’s activities, performance, and financial health, ensuring legal and ethical compliance.
    • Participate in board meetings, offering insights and expertise on key issues and decisions.
  2. Strategy and Planning

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term strategies and plans.
    • Work with the board to identify opportunities for growth, improvement, and community engagement.
  3. Advocacy and Promotion

    • Act as an ambassador for Downs and Special Friends Charity, raising awareness of our work and mission.
    • Support fundraising initiatives and help build relationships with donors, partners, and the wider community.
  4. Risk Management

    • Ensure effective risk management processes are in place, identifying and addressing potential issues proactively.
    • Review policies and practices to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all individuals connected to the charity.
  5. Financial Stewardship

    • Oversee the charity’s finances, ensuring funds are used effectively and transparently.
    • Contribute to budget planning and financial reviews, supporting sustainable growth.
